Male makes female very happy (almost).

Male makes female very happy (almost).
So sad, her cries were so sad and forlorn...you could hear the painful anguish in her voice. She was mostly silent but would occasionally call in vain to her lover but there was no response. I could no longer stand hearing her sad cries because I could easily feel her pain. Since her partner had died (age), I just HAD to find another male for my young 1 yr old female Zebra Finch. After a month long search I finally found a male finch yesterday (on sale yet).
.
. . The difference was TOTALLY AMAZING, I mean really really amazing.. Now her exuberant song is one of extreme joy and pleasure You've never seen so much extreme happiness... she is ecstatic with joy. The most pleasant sweet chirping sounds she now makes. Yes, they are madly in love, lots of hugging, cuddling and mutual preening. I can see that it won't be long now.
.
. . She is SOoooo anxious to mate. She keeps trying to lure him to her nest. She flies to him to get his attention then to her nest where she crouches down to wait for him...again and again and again. He excitedly joins her but doesn't know what to do so flies away. He is only a few months old and apparently not old enough to mate yet. Yes, She is a cougar finch, not a Zebra Finch, but soon it will not matter.
.
. . The most important thing is that she is now so overwhelmingly happy. Now I love to hear their constant gentle but enthusiastic conversations. Nature the way it should be.
.
. . In my home office I enjoy having passive company. I tried mice (ok, but smelly), fish (ok but not to interactive), crabs (indifferent), turtles and snails (boring). For 5 years now, I have a large finch cage just a few feet away and it's perfect. They are constantly hyper active and constantly in pleasant happy conversation.... quiet enough to easily ignore if desired, and they only require minimum maintenance. They always seem so happy and cheerful... it's catchy.

List of things safe and unsafe for birds

Things safe and unsafe for Birds

As bird owners, we can all attest to the fact that our pet birds really love to chew on things, (food and otherwise). It is important to keep yourself educated around what's toxic to your bird and what isn't so that your companion bird is around for you to love for a long time.
The following lists were derived from a variety of bird care sources and represent primary things known to be toxic to birds.  (Please check with your avian vet if in doubt). With regard to wood/trees remember, ANY chemicals that are sprayed on trees are toxic and may kill your bird. The Parrot Spot sells a wide variety of safe parrot bird toys for your parrot to chew on.

Other Foods to Avoid
Fatty foods Commonly overfed fatty foods include nuts, French fries, crackers, marbled meat, peanut butter, butter, fried chicken, fried anything etc.
Sugar foods Obviously, frosting is high in sugar and undesirable. Similarly, soda pop, candy and these types of foods are not recommended.
Dairy Birds lack the digestive enzymes needed to break down milk sugar and milk proteins. Uncultured milk products such as milk, cream and butter should not be fed but yogurt, cheeses and dried milk can be supplemented in the diet in moderation (they are also high in fat).
Lettuce A typical filler food, lettuce is low in everything except water. It is not recommended as a food supplement since it offers little, if anything, for the bird. If leafy foods are desired by your bird, try feeding spinach, collard greens, tops of bok choy, carrot tops or kale.
Avocado Although higher in fat than other veggies and used in other countries to condition birds for breeding, avocado has been shown to be toxic in some birds and its feeding is no longer recommended, as mentioned above in the Toxic Foods list
