Pictured below is Jerry Spiess. He crossed the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
My boss's husband was a famous World sailor in a 10 foot sailboat, I met him several times. Then one day he mentioned that he took Dinty Moore Stew with him on his famous trips across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans... as BALLAST in his boat.
Very interesting story this link.... it’s a short but fascinating read, hard to quit reading.

Hey, the batchlors best dish yet, with some good old saltine crackers. Had some in a can of Sea Rations I openned once in the 60s, had been canned in the 40s and was still, well, sort of fresh. Heated it up and it made the jungles of Nam a little like home!
ReplyDeleteTexas - Gosh some of the food in my cupboards is probably from the 40's. Wanna come over for dinner?
ReplyDeleteGosh, it seems nobody is attracted to Dinty Moore Stew..... ??
ReplyDeleteStew should be made from scratch, not a can!
ReplyDeleteStew. In a can. Ew.
ReplyDeleteI remember this story.
