I looked down and was bleeding from both arms. After, when we cleaned up, I washed my arms several times but always found more bits of glass.
I couldn't move until I removed all the glass from my lap, the seat between my legs and on the sides or I would have been cut to shreds.
This is how we drove the last 40 miles home. Wanted to make it before dark. With the wind blast from each oncoming vehicle, bits of glass would fall on the dashboard.
At least WE did better than SHE did. So Sad. The other Turkey missed us but was in the woods calling for his partner... so sad.
Actually, I thought this was kind of pretty...artwork by nature???
. . The Insurance Co replaced the windshield the next day;
Yikes
ReplyDeleteThank God your both alright . AH Ah bad thought this is only the second first was the man eating pothole , have you considered going to bed and staying there
ReplyDeletewow ... how scary and sad .
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad it didin't cause an accident with more injury.
Good thing it wasn't raining ... eh ?
oh man ...
On another note ... now that you're safely on the "ok " side ... the species choice was rather appropriate .
ReplyDeleteWait ... no ... lol ... I am not inferring you are a "Turkey" ... lol .. omg ... *she blushes* ... I meant that it was a bird rather than... oh say ... a whale or ... Buffalo ...
ReplyDelete*she sneaks off ... *
some of the best laid plans fowled by a turkey that wanted to cross the road
ReplyDeleteSo glad you came out of that ok! Don't think I would have been able to keep the van straight on the road as it impacted...{{{{{shudder}}}}} at the thought. Certainly made an eventful story you would have been happy to have missed out on.
ReplyDeleteBy law we have to have safety glass in our windscreens and when it breaks the windscreen goes into a honeycomb of little pieces that won't slice the occupants - then the advice is to punch a hole in it/larger hole in it and drive with the windows closed. until you get somewhere where it can be fixed.
Called Insurance co Mon a.m., by noon had brand new windshield.
ReplyDeletefantaesia - when it hit, I didn't even get the "Y" in yikes out.
ranky - With the pot hole, the Chicken could NOT cross the road... In this case the turkey didn't cross the road either.
itsalin - It could have been so much worse...Lucky and unlucky. "some turkey ran into me".
goods - Those turkeys have bad timing when crossing the road.
loish - Fortunately, driving conditions were good, road straight, no traffic, no problem pulling over. With a sharp impact this glass does the honeycomb thing too, but with weight impact like that the glass pieces crunch against each other producing the shards and powdered glass. Considered putting duct tape on the broken glass, but... needed to see as good as possible with sun in eyes.
What a traumatic experience for a bird lover.

ReplyDeleteienvan - It was so very sad to hear the dead birds partner calling for her. I wanted to hug him to comfort him.
Glad there were no serious injuries to the people. Poor turkeys...........
