She picked out all the red Lucky-Charms hearts and handed them to me.

So I sit at my computer munching on various (dry) breakfast cereals one piece at a time from a hand full. Spot, the 100% pure white Dove always lands on my hand to see what I’m eating, if she likes it she steals some (WHOooo HOooOoo she says).

Today, Valentines Day, I was eating "Lucky Charms" and she came and picked out ALL the little red marshmallow hearts and held them up for me to take (they were too big for her to eat)..until all the red hearts were gone. Isn’t she sweet? (Repost from 2 yrs ago)

She helps me type... and is not a very good speller.

Spot always has to check out what I'm eating or drinking.

  2. Yes... I just love my Doves, all three are just as loving and lovable. Spot's daughter Mini is sitting on my hand now as I type... she's settling down and fluffing up, getting sleepy and will soon be napping... back to one-handed typing for me.

  3. Our kitty, Moe, was on my lap here for a while. It's a blessing when our critters choose to be with us :)

  5. I agree, and enjoy communicating with them in ways they understand; reading their body language and how they show affection, and doing likewise, as much as people can. It's much easier to understand how an animal thinks and works when you've learned how they communicate within their own species.

  6. It always amazes me just how well we CAN communicate with animals, and they with us. I rarely have difficulty understanding what they are trying to tell me... they speak very clearly.
My Pigeon 2.5 flew to the deck today and it was clear that she wanted me to open the patio door so she could fly into the house, she hinted and hinted but we were leaving so I couldn't let her ~:<(

When my Doves are on my arm and they turn and stare into my eyes, it's very clear we are "Connecting"... and a bond is forming. They so totally trust me.

  7. That's what I teach the kids (try to); that our animals need to be able to trust us. Trust us to care for them, protect them, be kind to them. I'm not wanting to be preachy here at all, but there is even a Bible verse that talks about God taking into account how we treat the animals around us. That doesn't mean no killing for certain reasons, it just means being good stewards with what is placed in our lives. Kitty looked up into my face, and reached her paw out to touch my chest, and gave me a little love nip. Yeah, she's content :)

  8. awwwwwww....
We have wild mourning doves in the neighborhood - I've seen upwards of 14 in my back yard, helping themselves to the dog bowls. And the dogs don't seem to mind.
I have a parrot whom I love dearly but she's left me for my husband....she ADORES him. the green brat (that woould be the bird, not the husband)

  9. Chickie - Our cat Tuna sometimes sleeps a few inches away but stretches out his paw while sleeping so he is touching us.

Coyete - Even wild Doves are very gentle.
Your parrot is just trying to make you jealous.
