Getting off the ground seems to be the hard part (Isn’t that true for all of us?) but once underway with forward speed it seems easier. . . . . . . But it still makes flying look like a lot of work.
Velcro makes a "clapping" noise while flying and I’ve always wondered why (seems inefficient), so with slow motion video I studied her flight. Now I can see why. It’s going to be very difficult to teach her not to do that (wastes energy). I tried to tell her but she doesn’t listen.
First in Slow Motion, then regular speed.
Velcro, you need to listen to Bert.
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty neat footage, Bert! Nature is awesome! Has she always made a sound when flying, or just recently?
ReplyDeleteSama - *sigh*... nobody listens to Bert.
ReplyDeleteChickie - Velcro has always made that noise. Seems most pigeons have a unique sound when flying... 2.5's wings "Squeak" when she flies (needs oil). Many breeds of Pigeons have been bred for special characteristics and some cannot fly at all.Parlor Rollers
great home movie - thanks
ReplyDeleteVelcro is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteGoodstuff - I think it's facinating to see how they fly...and how they can control each feather and make nanosecond decisions...amazing.
ReplyDeletefransformation - I like to hear people say that... thanks. I keep telling her how beautiful she is. Her twin sister has won many awards including best in show at the MN State fair.
The Parlor Roller is a very strange bird. How about those pigeons that have their chests all puffed up, and they can't even see forward? I would like to see where I'm going :)
ReplyDeleteChickie - Some have been bred to the point of absurdity.
ReplyDeleteThat IS crazy. All for man's whims. Karma; a giant pigeon coming down and breeding mankind into unimaginable contortions!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think it's gruesome ... and cruel. ... and I hope the big Karma Pigeon is good to you and me...?
ReplyDeleteThe big Karma Pigeon will be good to us, Bert. No doubt :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so interesting. It seems complete 180 degrees with each wing until she's up. So what is that clapping sound from? Loved this especially slow motion. Thanks Bert and Velcro xx
ReplyDeleteI don't fly much , landings are much to hard , But that is great camera work
ReplyDeletechickie - I sure hope so...
ReplyDelete7jewel - Still not sure if the clapping is at top or bottom? (Bottom I think?)...But as she picks up speed, wings don't touch anymore. I thought it was interesting how she's vertical just before landing.
ranky - Me...?... I can't even get off the ground. They make it look so easy when in flight...I love watching them fly around the neighborhood.
