Rock climbing - Broken hip, ribs and shoulder.

We went to the rock climbing part of St Croix River NE of Minneapolis Minnesota When we arrived there was an ambulance.
We walked on a very rocky rugged trail over jagged refrigerator size nasty boulders to get to the cliff and then learned that a girl climber (25ish?) fell and broke her hip, ribs and shoulder while walking on the very trail that we just used. Yes the trail was rough, but not that bad (unless you fall).

This is the trail to one of the many climbing areas.
It's a very popular area for rock climbing (we watched), nothing else like it for hundreds of miles, so they come here.

Nothing like being prepared.

  1. That's beautiful country, Bert.

(Personally, I'd be the guy in the boat - I'm more of a water-guy...)

  2. I am afraid of heights.
    Knowing me I would fall.
About five or so years ago a group of friends and I went on a hike to High Park. There is a big hill. The path up is quite wide but at the top we all noticed a bird on the path and everyone was trying to get a good look. I was the closest to the edge and I didn't realize that I was in fact too close to the edge. The next thing I knew I fall over the edge on to a bunch of hard rocks similar looking to these but not as high thankfully. All I hurt was my tail bone. I didn't hit my head luckily but the rest of the hike was very painful. I wasn't about to call it quits though and I stayed for the duration. I must admit that I was very relieved when I finally made it back home and I could sit and not move for awhile.

  3. Gorgeous photos! Rock climbing doesn't call to me ... Walking past huge rocks does.
    Have a beautiful Sunday,

  5. Years ago I climbed an almost vertical sort-of pinnacle about 800-1000 feet. The hard part was that I had to climb back down.... THAT really had me scared. Haven't done it since.

Astra - Me too. Walking on the rocky trail is the extent of my daring.

esoterika - To me, the thrill is not worth the risk...not for me.

transform - I don't even like to watch others climb for fear one may fall, I don't want to see that.

tint - It's not too far from my house... beautiful any time of year.

gemina - The area is so beautiful it's hard to not get a good picture... very nice. I'm pretty sure the girl was a climber? or may have been a spectator like us. Most people there climb.

goodstuff - Thanks. It's such a nice scenic area, we go there frequently just to hike and picnic.

  6. its beautiful scenery, Bert, my husband is part mountain goat, but not me. I'm a clutz. I can trip over a rise in the temperature.

  7. ienvan - We frequent that area to hike and picnic. It's just blocks where my Mother lives.
I'm just not willing to take chances like that.
