This is my favorite light bulb, we've been together for decades.

So what's so special about it ??? At my farm this 300 watt bulb was in the granary (My garage) for many years of daily service, shinning brightly. When we bought a house in town 10 years ago I brought the bulb with me and it's been in my garage here now, still burning brightly... now nearly 30 years old.
? Why is that ? There is nothing special about it. No name on it, it's just another bulb. Maybe it likes me?
(Almost All my other light bulbs are LEDs, but I just can't part with my favorite 300 watt bulb).

  2. 30 years??!! That's unbelievable. I'd say it definitely likes you. :)

I'm slowly making the switch to LED's too... one globe at a time. Don't know what it's like in the States, but they're soooo expensive here.

  3. Blackmoon - ? you don't have a favorite light bulb ?

stuffed - Well, at least not this particular bulb...none of the others did so well.

sam - There's nothing like a loyal light bulb... it likes to be hugged.

    mila - I can't explain it, maybe it's a record?
LED's are expensive here too, up to $60 each (absurd). They will come down quickly in years to come. I found a good source and I canNot imagine why more people don't take advantage of it.

AND since then, the newer technology has even better LEDs, with a 180 degree area (the older ones tended to be more like a wide area spotlight). The new ones have a small yellow square instead of a dome like appearance and many are "dimmable".. Now I use only the "yellow square" ones, even on flashlights, etc (Saves a LOT on flashlight batteries). All LEDs are very durable and work great even at 20F below zero. Super.

  4. and there's no reason you should part with it ... "They" no longer makes things to last long, so we do not relate to our possesssions the way we used to... :-D

  5. fransform - If they made an LED equivalent to 300 watts I would likely buy it. But I use this energy hog (many times per day) because it spends most of it's life in darkness...not too expensive to operate. If it was on for longer periods of time... LED is the way to go. The more time a light is lit, the more justification for LED. Mostly I just find it amazing it still functions.
