Practicing to be Nursing home therapy birds (soon).
This is Mary at a seniors apartment where my Mother lives. She was delighted with the birds and still talks about them. I gave Mary a copy of this and she has it framed and proudly displays it on her wall.
I took my German Shepherd therapy dog, Diesel, to nursing homes to cheer up the residents until he himself became too old..... now it's the birds turn. Seems they are off to a good start. It's a good feeling to see the residents smile and that makes me smile too.

I love it Bert. So lovely. Well done doing that volunteer work, it is so important for our seniors to interact with children and animals. I worked in geriatrics in Denmark years ago and have volunteered here for relief work. Just the look on her face is absolutely worth a million dollars.
ReplyDeleteBert, what an awesome thing you're doing!! This is such a heart-warming shot. Mary looks happy and you made that possible :-).

I'd be tempted to call this shot "Four Birds"... "bird" being the English/Aussie term for female. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful photo! I remember reading how beneficial animal companionship is for the elderly. I can't remember the exact details other than that the study showed that senior citizens who own or are in regular contact with animals are actually happier and therefore less prone to stress and illness. Is this the idea behind your therapy animals?
That fluffy bird is so cute! Makes me think of a baby Big Bird from Sesame Street.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo! Mary is obviously quite entranced : ) I fully believe in the therapeutic value of animals.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shot, Bert! And what a neat thing for you to do. Want to borrow my dog??? ;-) He'll be glad to go with you if they give him treats.
ReplyDeleteFantastic shot and yes ...it should be called four birds...lol

ReplyDeleteI adore that fluffy chicken, and the woman's obvious joy. I wish someone would do a visit like this to my own grandmother's nursing home. She said it gets tedious and boring there.
ReplyDeleteO my fluffy .... a silky chicken?? That is one silly looking bird.. but I'll bet it gets plenty of smiles and pets! Very nice capture!
ReplyDeleteBirds can be fun critters.. I had a Mynah bird from the time I was 4 until I was 24... and we don't know how old he was when we found him. He was a great asset to our family and our business!
here's mine: Picture Perfect ~ Three ~
Applaudung you Bert! You never cease to amaze me.
