060627 - - - - - "Lonely Socks"

I bought those little springy hair clippy thingies for hair, that look like miniature rakes that clamp together like a set of spring-loaded teeth. Before throwing dirty socks in laundry bin, I clamp the socks together  (On the heel side), wash/dry, and 99.8% of the time they are still together when done. Then I toss them in the clean socks drawer still clipped together.   SOOOooooo easy.
NOTE- Some brands of clips have sharper teeth than others and work better.

So now instead of missing one sock, they vanish in pairs. Much better. Martha Stewart often calls me for advice for new ideas for her show. Next week- - Napkin folding.

  1. I left your 'Click here' loading. Think it has something to do with the location? haha! Now, Bert... this is a brilliant idea! Those darn clips are good for nothing else. They break if you look at them. And the socks don't get snagged? I must try it. I detest pairing up Jorge's socks. I use patterned socks to avoid that.

  3. Tint - Click here? don't know will fix it. (Later... I found the problem, it's Yahoo, it just takes forever to load).

The clips. It works great. But they do tend to get brittle after going thru the dryer a dozen or two times. The reason I put them on the heel is because they sometimes leave a slight buldge in the material but the buldge disappears after a short while anyway.

jgigi - yup that would work too, but most of my socks are all slightly different.

  4. Nothing wrong with the link, Bert. I was referring to the slowness of the site ; ) I remember that picture. We don't use a dryer here. Clothes get hung on the line. I don't like driers.

  5. Amazingly Yahell actually opened for me today, I remember that picture too.

but .... Bert, how do you post your comment with no headshot showing??? In fact you have no headshot on the right banner either. Is this my issue or your issue?? I see everyone else's headshots.

  6. I peg my socks on the line in pairs and they only vanish when the norwester blows...

  7. Bert's headshot is showing just fine for me

  8. Thank you Tint. This is really odd then I can see the picture on this post but no picture on Bert's previous post and no headshots of Bert at all, except on my inbox page. So far as I can tell this issue is only confined to Bert's pages and nowhere else (so far at least). Oh well maybe it will just fix itself sometime soon lol.

  9. Probably. Have you tried Ctrl+F5 on his page?

  10. Wow I just did that Tint and Bert has magically reappeared complete with lil red cockscomb even!!! Thank you.

  11. OH THANK GOODNESS.... I hate not having a head.

  12. A normal F5 will refresh the page. Ctrl+F5 clears the old page out of your cache, so you reload brand spanking new. This chicken is obviously picky about appearing on used pages ; )

  13. well who would wanna run around like a headless chicken after all, lol.

  14. I guess a used/second hand chicken could become somewhat rubbery, still it takes all sorts, hehe, thank you again Tint.

  15. I'm the same when it comes to drying clothes.

Those hair thingos are a good idea. I usually use diaper pins and I have always had about 100 of the suckers, thanks to three kids.

  16. Often in the Summer we dry clothes on a line, but Winter hanging wet clothes at twenty below zero F (-29c) in gale force winds, it's not a very pleasant task.

  17. I imagine you'd have sheets of ice hanging on your line.

  18. I very rarely wear socks. You wouldn't have this problem if you wore pantyhose instead ;D

  19. Debo - that's not to mention the frozen finger.

Recon - Um, no thanks, I'll pass on wearing pantyhose.

  20. Eew... second hand chicken!?

    haha... pantihose works ; )

  21. Tint - Have you ever tried to pull a pair of pantyhose over chicken feet? Not easy. (Not that I do it.. the hens... the hens).

  22. Bert.... I wondered for a minute how you knew...... ?!

  23. Hilarious! I've seen the Yahoo photo before ... So THAT is where the socks go? LOL

  24. I did my washing last night, and I did something different.

Most socks get lost in the washing machine. At least that's what I've noticed as I would often only put one sock on the line, yet there was never an instance when I put up two, but then pulled off only one sock.

I put all the socks into a pillow case last night and that really worked a treat!!!

  25. What a neat idea! I'll give that a try Bert. My only worry would be the possibility of them melting in the drier? I always have mine set to hot... I take it that's not been a problem for you?

I'm glad you liked the story so much. It's my favourite piece I've ever written, lol! The other favourite is a bit darker, about my ex boyfriend back in Liverpool, junkie turned alcoholic. I think you've read that, I seem to recall you commenting on it.
I'm always best when I write about real experiences that have brought out a strong emotion - I'm pretty useless at making stuff up. I need a "prompt" of some sort, and a clear head. My muse isn't very forthcoming lately.

  26. Mouse - I have always liked fact better than fiction ... or at least based on facts. I'm the same... many of my posts are a result of comments made on my previous posts.... I often need a prompt.
. . . The sock clips do not melt... but after a few years may become brittle while others break in two pieces. Some clip manufacturers last longer than others... and some brands are MUCH easier to clip thru the socks than others. Some brands have small rough edges that make it hard to push thru the socks... others brands are easy. I use the size that are about the size of the tip of your little finger.
. . It's fairly rare for them to come apart during washing or drying... maybe one pair every 10th time... so the two loose socks ...you know they will match, the only loose two in the bunch.
. . . I simply take them out of the dryer and leave them clipped together in the sock drawer...ready to go, unclip them when I use them. . When I throw dirty socks in the hamper I clip them together first.
. . . Works for me, fast easy and cheap... I HATE matching socks... miserable chore.
