Picture Perfect - Steel and Glass - Light Bulbs

These are not ordinary light bulbs and this is not a static sculpture.  It's one of many pieces of art at an all night art show  (8pm to 7am) covering the entire Twin Cities. Most of the artwork required darkness to be seen. This sculpture performs in a most unusual and surprising way (Not part of PP, but see video below).

                                ----------  PP stops here. --------
The above photo makes little sense without the supporting photos and video below.
At night the lights blink in a surprising manner.

This is what it looks like when you spin the camera.  The dotted lines reveal that the bulbs are actually LEDs.

There are MANY other strange and interesting exhibits.

Near the end of the 50 second video reveals what these lights do.  Notice the lights blinking. They are not blinking in a random manner.  "You cannot see the forest for the trees".

  1. Blackmoon - Me neither... it was pretty amazing to be standing next to it and inside it...Most of the other art was quite spectacular and amazing also. We didn't go home until 3:30am... roaming around the TwinCities looking at art. The next day (with little sleep) we went to an all day festival that was four miles long with dozens of bands and musicians and vendors. Tired.

  3. the first still shots made me think "it's raining lightbulbs", and I wondered what the structure to hold them all into place looked like. This is a very interesting art piece. Almost reminds me of Christmas and how some places will string hundreds and hundreds of lights to blink to music as you walk or drive through the park.

  6. I'm feeling quite light-headed now :-)) That's great, would love to see it in person. I wonder if the display is pre-programmed or it they use motion sensors to catch the movement of passers-by. Cool!!!
